Accident, injury, other forms of damage; personal injury or death ie breaks, drowning, soft tissue injury.

Group size; average age; medical conditions.

Age and wear; correct use.

Weather and cave; water levels.

Risk Management Strategies

Normal Operations

6 to 1 adults; 4 to 1 minors; (1 guide: 1adult 5 minors); tour structured to suit average age and abilities; medical forms supplied.

Age of equipment; log replaced  to industry standard; equipment used correctly.

 

Weather monitored; cave monitored.

 

Emergency

In the event of injury there are three levels of action: 1. minor injury = self-evacuation 2. serious injury = guide / operations manager / client evacuation  3. major injury = full police /SAR /air ambulance; all three plans noted in operations manual.

Relevant Industry Standards Applicable

In house guide training for site involved; NZ Mountain Safety First Aid; Waitomo SRT Standard (relevant  sections for site); Passenger Service licence; NZOutdoor Instructors Association Cave 1.

Policies and Guidelines Recommended Please refer to operations manual as there are  many different  guidelines relevant to clients and weather conditions.
Skills Required by Staff

Full understanding of operations manual and the ability to implement it; NZ Mountain First Aid; Waitomo SRT Standard; Passenger Service licence (when driving clients).
