ABOVE GROUND ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES

   Altura Park Horsetreks (Y9 students and Up)

 
Spectacular 360 degree views over mountains and farmland.  Horses available for all abilities.  Immaculate grounds and quality gear and horses.  Qualmark endorsed.  FREE entry to our gardens and wildlife park  (see attractions).
 
Cost to schools per person $60 for 1 1/2 hour ride, $40 for 1/2 hour ride. 

NB female riders must weigh under 90kg, male riders must weigh under 100kg.

 

 

 

   Big Red 4x4 Bikes: (Y9 students and Up)         

Enjoy NZ's rugged countryside with Waitomo Big Red. Wind your way through bush, navigate rutted tracks, in and out of valleys with steep descents. A feast of spectacular native bush, limestone landscape, mountain views and acres of beautiful scenery.

   Dundle Hill Walk: (Y4 students and Up)   

A two day walk (27 km) through lush native bush, unique limestone formations, caves, forestry and  farmland. Overnight accommodation is provided at the Kay's Cabin, situated halfway on the walk with generous accommodation for 38 people. An ideal opportunity to study a the 'Living World' and an excellent example of conservation and management of a water catchment area. An ideal class overnight tramp.

   Harvest Indoor Rock Climbing Centre (Y4 students and Up)   

Located in Otorohanga, 15 minutes drive from the Waitomo Village, this centre provides instruction and  indoor rock climbing experiences. The climbs range in difficulty and instruction is tailored to the ability of each group. Adults are required to belay students under Y9. The centre is also equipped with table tennis, air hockey, large screen audio-visual entertainment, toilets, showers and kitchen facilities. Allow approx. 2 hours for this activity. Maximum group size is 30 students.

   Mini Quest: (Y4 to Y8)Miniquest2.jpg (11412 bytes)

Adventure problem solving game aimed at raising students' social and co-operative skills.  The course involves a series of obstacles including rope bridges and slippery logs.

Rock climbing and abseiling available on a variety of slopes in the area.  Climbs tailored to the needs of the group.

   Waitomo High Ropes: (Y9 and Up)

Challenge yourself on our high ropes course. Be10 metres above the ground in a safety harness and cross the Burma Bridge, Monkey Tales or Hebe Gebe Jump and grab the Trapeze. Have a go on our Giant Swing, set in a plantation forest so you're shaded from the summer sun.
